Realising their ideas, they put their first three cars on the Rotterdam roads in June 1995. Undoubtedly helped by a partnership with the Dutch Railways, their success soon surpassed that of their German example. They took over StattAuto in 2004 - the acquisition of Shell Drive Deutschland was announced in January 2006.

Eric Britton, World Carshare and the New Mobility Agenda

Eric Britton studied physics in university and then went on to a PhD program in economics, but has in fact worked
professionally in neither area. Over his career he has been a devoted supporter and at times a prickly friend of those charged with advancing the sustainability agenda, today a disorderly, lightly considered construction site in need of deep communications, ideas, unrelenting citizen activism and lots of hard work. Since 1973 when he first looked at the Procotip project in France, he thought that carsharing was a terrific idea. He still does. (Eric will work as rapporteur and secretary for the panel.)
