  • As of summer 2006 we started to organize a certain number of informal video libraries as part of our group challenge to old thinking in the sector and all the problems that go with it. What is most interesting about the ones you will see here is that for the most part they represent entirely independent "citizens-eyes views" in each case. For now they are organized in a handful of groups, to which you can click directly from the menu just to your left. You will find that each explains itself pretty well in their respective home pages.

    Stage 1:
The goal in this first stage is to get the ball rolling by popping in a first set of clips that we happen to find by hunting around and then inviting our world wide colleagues (that means you!) to have a look and share with us their thoughts as to how if at all this might be made into something useful. Also, we would be most welcoming if you have videos and clips for us that can help to point up good and bad practices and outcomes, for the several focus areas that you see here. (I hope it will be clear from the short introductory paragraphs as well your long experience with us, what goes where. Admittedly though it is not always self-evident.)

But this is only the starting point, and we think that if we put or heads together we can make of this something really useful

    Stage II:
Our hope here is that this will urge you to go onto the streets of your own city and start to create a focused video library that will point up, again, those good and bad practices. And interviews with people of different stripes that can help us to understand the range of views and hopes in your city.

You can bet that we would like to see a lot of this to provide honest mapping of what takes place in your city on, say, your next Car Free Day. So that you can put this before your mayor and tell them: "Here is hands-on, on-street evidence of how transport and mobility look like in our city today, Mr. Mayor. Don't you think we should be trying to do better? And here are some ideas to help you get started."

    Guidelines?
Should we be trying to come up with some hints and guidelines as to how perhaps to do this a tad batter, based on our collective experience? If you click around in the various libraries you will see quite a range of examples, so other than to plug the Contested Streets trailer and the wonderful unplanned 90-second Man on the Street interview in Groningen (both on the top menu). But there is a lot more there as you will see.

Hope you find some use in this. And more yet, that you will help us make something really useful of all this. The war to improve our mobility systems in and around city is one of long odds, and we need to use every tool and trick in the book and then some if we are to prevail. Which of course we must.

New (and Old) Mobility Video Libraries

What you have here is for now the first stages of what we call a thinking exercise. The idea is to play with the site a bit and see if in good order we can create a useful shared video library offering independent evidence in support of the New Mobility Agenda at and its associated collaborative programs.

This "Global South Mobility" section of the New Mobility Agenda video collection provides a collection of private views of both the problems (most of which based on the results of the imported car-based, "old mobility" model from the North) and the Global South's search for new and often original and surprising solutions. And as with the ... (more)
