a message to netscape users |
You have entered The Commons using a Netscape browser, and while it works fairly well (only so so actually if it is an older version) you will find that the later versions of Internet Explorer (5.1+) or the 6.1 version on Netscape work considerably better (cleaner, clearer, faster). Since both are entirely free, may we suggest that you download and install a copy. You can do this with a single click to obtain. . .
For a first visit, your older Netscape browser will still do the trick, so to enter the site and begin your look around kindly click here.
Some of you may care to try another path, the excellent browser Opera, which works quite well on this site and is especially useful for both its speed, flexibility and very modest dimensions. Thus, if you have an older, smaller computer, this may be the browser for you. There is a free 30 day demo which you can check out here. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. We run The Commons with zero outside finance and whatever it is we manage to do is accomplished with unpaid volunteer labor, from top to bottom. If on the other hand, you have the expertise, time and good will to help us in modifying the 5,000+ pages on this public interest site over to improve their browser compatibility, you are invited to step forward and make yourself known. We have work for you. (For the record, over the last months roughly one in nine visitors came in the first time via Netscape. Of these more than half were sufficiently interested in what they saw to acquire the free IE browser. The remainder, a bit less than 3%, continue to enter with Netscape despite its minor limitations here. In our next life we will try to be perfect.) |
