Summary Bio
Eric Britton founded EcoPlan in 1966 to provide an independent forum of study, reflection and counsel on issues involving the management of technology as it effects people in their daily lives. A decade later he created a non-profit international public interest collaborative for these same purposes, The Commons. Both EcoPlan and The Commons carry out the greater part of their work via international problem-solving networks linking outstanding thinkers, researchers and decision-makers from diverse disciplines, countries and points of view. The consistent theme of all this work has been to contribute to the long-term push toward more sustainable lives and social justice. With the first concrete step to get underway tomorrow morning. . . early. Eric's main job in Earth Car Free Day is to do what he can to meld the years of experience, the contacts and the leading projects that have been assisted over the last decade by The Commons and the original Car Free Day Consortium, in order to ensure the success of the 2001 events. His goal for 2001: to create a long term support structure for a new, citizen-based movement to advance the sustainability agenda, with or without international treaties or support from hesitant national bureaucracies.
