Leading the Way

Who are all these great people?
This section provides some brief background and link information on the growing collection of fine people from the far corners of the planet who are stepping up, each in their own way, to ensure the success of Earth CarFree Day 2001 and its many parts. Every one of them is a volunteer! Unpaid! And a good neighbor.

As you will see as you get into the site, their roles and contributions vary considerably. In some cases they are pitching in to help bring in specific implementation ideas and events for groups such as cyclists, pedestrian associations, mobility management centers, parent groups, green map makers, environmentalists... and the list goes on. In others they are helping us get out the word and mobilize support in a given country, city or neighborhood. Yet others are coming in with backgrounds and specific skills which they are contributing to ensure the success of both this site and, far more important, the ambitious goals that bring us all here together.

New 2001 Partners: What we need from you
As we go along, we shall be sending out invitations on a selective basis to a limited group of leading thinkers, observers, activists and decision makers around the world to join this fine support group. It is our hope that when invited you can take a minute to sign in and send on:

  • A short personal bio note of some 150-200 agreeably readable words, which puts your career and most immediate antecedents of this cooperative event in a nutshell - with the last 1-2 sentences explaining your intended linkage or contribution to the project. (See this example for guidance here.)

  • A small B&W photo, a head shot in JPG, if possible of less than 10-15k. (And if it has one or two of your children in it, that would be better yet.)

  • Links to any past events, projects or publications that in your view are particularly relevant to our cooperative undertaking.

That's all there is to it. Then once we have heard from you we can then be in touch and see how we might get together to make this fine thing work.
