  • Need some help from the real world in getting started with your carshare project or research? If your goal is to educate yourself quickly and well on the fast-moving topic of carsharing, here is a growing collection of listings and sites of operators world-wide where you will do well to start your search. (Spot something we have missed. Drop us a line here and we'll do the necessary.)

    World CarShare Operator On-Line Inventory

This dynamic inventory is maintained as part of a continuing cooperative process, with the help of the international members of the group. The links you find here provide one click access to more than one hundred fifty of the carshare operations around the world that to our knowledge are maintaining web sites. Most of the big, high profile ones are there.

    World CarShare Service/Supplier Inventory

The following list identifies groups and offerings, stretching from companies ready to supply technology and support services for start-ups and existing CSO's, consultants with specific expertise, to multi-city CSO operators ready to expand to other cities (in their country or elsewhere). What you will find here is enough to get you going. From then on, you are on your own. (That said, if you spot any errors or omissions here, please do let us know so that we can correct the master list.)

World Carshare listing of national/regional groupings

To complete your search we recommend that you have a look at the numerous independently compiled inventories (most of which are regularly updated) which can be reached by clicking here: Regional/National C/SO groupings.

You may find it useful to have a look at the trends by country as well.

Ride-sharing, car and vanpools, organized hitchhiking

These group ride services are rapidly expanding, after several decades of uncertain progress and often poor results. What has happened is that on the one hand the supporting software has greatly improved, while in parallel the level of organization and business experience has considerably matured. This is starting to change everything. We also are increasingly seeing possible creative interfaces and synergies with both carsharing and other forms of alternative local mobility (including via local Mobility Centers).

    Historical note

The first-cut version of this world listing was initially developed in paper form as an annex for our 1997/8 CarShare Casebook. In 1999 we decided to pull it out of the background and bring it on line for your free consultation and use.

Anything missing here? Errors in the listings? This is the place to let us know. Kind thanks.
