Related Pro Bono Work

EcoPlan's work has always focused on serving both private and public sector clients, for the most part on the basis of specific assignments defined and paid by contracts, and in a few cases on a longer term retainer basis as advisors or for specific support purposes. But as the Bible puts it: "man does not live by bread alone", so we also decided right at the outset in 1967 to put a portion of our time, energies and money into public interest projects of a variety of types where our tools and skills might be of use to others.

In the early nineties all of this public interest work was clustered into a collaborative construct which we call The Commons and which we now invite you to visit and peruse. As you will see, it is divided into several dozen programs or activity areas: some of these short-term and related to a specific event or set of dates, such as a specific conference, happening or university or school course. Others tend to have a broader series of objectives and longer life cycle, as you will see here.

Rather than try to describe to you what these consist of, it will be faster and better all around if we just link here directly to the specific sites so that you can have a look and make up your mind for yourself. We have selected here for the most part projects and programs that are likely to be of interest in some way to our clients, existing and prospective. Our habit of looking at the same problem and opportunity areas that also constitute the main thrust of our paid work, allows us to have a rather broader view of things as well as linkages and relationships that can help us develop ideas and programs for our clients that are at once potential money makers and ethical. But you can now see this for yourself:

  • The Commons
(Also provides an introduction to the whole concept and guidelines for best use of the sites)

  • Rethinking Work:
New Ways to Work in an Information Society

  • @Access on the Web: The Sustainable Transportation Forum
Ideas, approaches and perspectives that reach well beyond the traditional notions of "transportation" and even "mobility"... and in the process help to open up new territory for opportunities for suppliers and others concerned with the future of the sector. This one comes complete with a set of electronic research tools that can turn the visitor into if not an expert, an awfully well informed person on the chosen topic very fast. Choose a topic. Spend an hour with it. Be surprised.

  • CarSharing
A new way to own and use cars. More to it than you might have thought.

  • World Transport Policy and Practice
An international journal devoted to forwarding the agenda of sustainable transportation.

  • First Zero Emissions Strategy Internet Conference

  • Children on the Move

  • If you chose to spend a bit of time with it, you will quickly see that there is more to The Commons than just that. But now at least you have the basic links and the arguments behind them, which you can explore or not, as you chose. You also know something about us and the ways we go about networking, cooperation and knowledge building, which may or may not interest you in knowing more.
