- Community Affairs Coordinator
- Managed technical assistance program charged with helping convert abandoned railway corridors into multi-use linear parks (rail-trails). Provided assistance through conferences, workshops and via telephone to citizen groups and local/ state governments on public participation strategies, planning issues, legal and procedural matters, trail marketing and trail management. Contributed to successful completion of over 100 rail-trail projects.
- Organized and managed first national conference bringing together railroad officials and rail-trail professionals in order to coordinate abandoned rail corridor preservation strategies. This conference successfully laid the groundwork for a closer working relationship between railroads and rail-trail proponents.
- Strengthened cooperation with National Park Service’s Rivers and Trails Conservation Assistance Program. Developed and carried out joint Rails-to-Trails Conservancy/National Park Service cooperative agreements for on-site training workshops and national conferences.
- Co-authored « Secrets of Successful Rail-Trails », a comprehensive guide to transforming abandoned rail corridors into multi-use trails.
