Experience and Specialized Professional Competence

  • 1988-Present: President of Ekenger Associates and Senior Partner and Director of EcoPlan International
  • 1991-1994: Partner of Merchant Venture Investments BV (the Netherlands) and Managing Director of Venture Prospects S.A. (Brussels), a consulting company specialized in European strategies and business development.
  • 1988-1991: Senior Partner and Chairman, Business Environment Europe, Brussels. In this position he advised several large European companies on how to cope with the on-going European integration process. Mr. Ekenger has worked closely with the Commission to establish the ERTECO programme, for which he still works as a consultant.
  • 1985-1988: First Secretary General of the Round Table of European Industrialists, an organization formed by leading European industrialists with the objective of strengthening the technological and industrial base in Europe. In this position was responsible for administering the activities of the Round Table, for promoting the interests of European industry, and coordinating the Round Table's work, often in close cooperation with authorities of the European Economic Community. During his tenure, the Round Table sponsored four major projects which related closely to the main thrust of our work at EcoPlan:

    (1) "Making Europe Work" (employment);
    (2) "Clearing the Lines" (telecommunications);
    (3) "Keeping Europe Mobile" (transport technology and management advances) and
    (4) "Financing and Promoting Large Infrastructure Projects in Europe".
