Go to the WorkPad for the new GATNET support site (under development)

About GATNET:
The GATNET gender and transport community grew from a research programme on mainstreaming gender into the World Bank's transport sector. The network communicates via an email discussion list hosted on Dgroups. The list is open to all those who are interested in issues relating to improving mobility and access for poor women and men in developing countries.

About the WorkPad:
The WorkPad is a small experiment which grew out of the Di8algue disucssions and follow-up and is intended to see if some a certain number of low of no-cost IP tools can be brought to bear to support the GATNET program and its existing Dgroups Listserve program. The entire process is being carried out with attention to the fact that many of the people working in the field at local level on these issues, and whom we are trying to serve, have to deal with limited bandwith and dial-up (and often costly) connections. Thus each key element of the site needs to take this into consideration.

The materials that you see at present on the site are in very early stages of development, and the entire process is being guided and moved along by a small informal group whose members feel that this idea is at least worth quick inspection. The work behind it is being funded and carried by The Commons on an unsupported volunteer basis, and the goal is to work with the core group over the first two months of 2006 to see what useful can be done along these lines.

Some First Building Blocks:
