The purpose of the Cyber-Traveller display is to show how information technology can be used to analyze and present information about transportation and even act as a substitute for the physical movement of people all in the interests of progress towards sustainable transportation. Demonstrations will take place in the foyer of the Waterfront Conference Centre.
Transportation Indicators on the World Wide Web (WWW)
Environment Canada's Indicators Program is aimed at developing a comprehensive set of national environmental indicators that gives a representative profile of the state of the environment and helps measure progress towards the goals of sustainable development. Recently indicators have been published on the World Wide Web to improve their accessibility and timeliness. The demonstration will focus on the environmental indicators concerning Canadian Passenger Transportation. There will be time for discussion of the indicators themselves and of their presentation on the Internet.
Vancouver Conference World Wide Web Site
This WWW site, developed by EcoPlan International, has provided world-wide information about the meeting for those considering participation. It now provides an opportunity for those who cannot attend the conference to participate via long-distance telecommunication. Also, it can help everyone participating in the conference interact in ways that will complement traditional conference activities.
