Your Car Free Day in One Page

The goal of Earth Car Free Day 2001 is to create a first-class shared information base and an open planetary communications framework to encourage and support a very large number and great variety of different types of "Car Free Day" actions and projects in cities and places all over the planet, which are to take place on April 19th. We are tackling this ambitious objective by working hand in hand with a steadily expanding collection of networks and groups around the world who are working from different angles on the issues of sustainable transport -- but above all are targeting projects and initiatives by individual citizens, families and neighborhood groups. It is the variety and the basically self-starting grassroots qualities of this 2001 approach that surely hold the keys to its success. (Check out the sections on The Challenge, Trickle Up, Self-Ogranized Projects and the Do-it-Yourself Kits for more on this.)

Quick Start
It may be that you need no further convincing and want to get right down to work in seeing who is planning what and where, with a view to joining in. Or perhaps you have a project of your own that you would like to post on the site for others to see and perhaps join. If that is the case you have come to the right place. The first key to fast entry here is that little "HotBar" that sits at the top of each page here. If you have just a bit of patience, a great way to get going here is to work your way across it quickly from left to right.

But you may be ready to move even faster, in which event why not just go to . . .

This should get you going -- and once you have gone that far we would suggest that you sit back and spend a bit more time with this site. It may be a bit daunting at first glance, but believe us, if you really care about these issues you will not be bored.

Have questions? Suggestions? Need some help?
This is an international team project involving a very large number of participating groups and individual partners, and international allies. (Check them out. . . not bad!) The lead in all this has been taken by two NGOs who are serving as your hard-working coordinators:
