How to Order

Need a good book on the cities/cars/people conundrum? It's not sure that you will always find what you are looking for in your local bookshop -- though that certainly is the place where we would urge you to look first. But, with a thought to the fact that they don't always have in stock what you may be looking for, your Earth Car Free Day team has got together with an old friend, the non-profit Detour Publications of Toronto Canada, to create a specialty e-bookshop which you can now access here.

Our goal here is to give you one-click access to a good number of the most important titles in print on our topics (and some that are no longer in print). And if nobody gets any discounts or commissions for sales, that's simply because our joint objective with Detour is to get what you need into your hands quickly and at a fair price. Here is what the fine people at Detour say about themselves:

Established as a non-profit enterprise in 1995, Detour Publications is an on-line source for books and multi-media resources focusing on sustainable transportation and urban ecology. Environmental groups, governments, educators, community organizations, planners, policy makers, architects and many others use Detour products for advocacy, research and educational purposes. Detour is proud to be working in partnership with Earth Car Free Day to spread the sustainable transportation word further and faster.

Detour has their own home page of course, which you can access directly here. They also offer videos and other multimedia materials that treat the challenges of sustainable transportation.

Browsing the shelves

Here you have three options. First, you can use the small menu to the upper left which shelves the titles that have been selected for ECFD 2001 under the four sections indicated: City Perspectives, Car Problems, Children's Books, and Reacting.

A second handy option is to use this Search Engine, searching by author name or title key words.

You can also check out the Detour Inventory List which lists all their titles in alphabetical order.

How to order

The order process is not only simply and secure with Detour's carefully studied one-click shopping cart, which is fully explained here. And though ordering Detour products through their Secure Server Software is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to begin reading (or watching!) your purchase, we understand that you may prefer to order your books, videos or CDs through more traditional means. Full information on all these options is laid out in the How to Order section here.

Missing Titles

The fifty or so titles listed here have been carefully selected with the issues and challenges behind ECFD 2001 very much in mind. But we are aware that there are other important titles that should be added to this list. And here is where you can let us know.
