  • Where do you start in a world of millions of towns and cities?

Where do you start in a project like this in a world of millions of towns and cities with as many variations in their transportation systems, problems, and possibilities?

Here are a few first reference points to help you in your thinking on this:

    • The CCI-Large Cities partnership began with 22 of the largest cities in the world participating. As of December 2006, the Group had already expanded to include its first 24 members (Click here for latest listing). The project team is discussing new city members and associate cities, and as this information becomes public we shall be posting it here. The partnership anticipates that many more cities will join over the next four to six months, the emphasis being on "Large Cities".

    • Here is one useful listing identifying by name and size the hundred largest cities in the world. For the record, the smallest of these has more than 3 million inhabitants, and about three quarters are in what are usually thought of as "developing countries".

    • As a further point of reference, this listing (click here) identifies more than four hundred cities around the world of one million inhabitants or more.
