This diary offers a quick overview of progress, people and events within the 2001 Outreach program since the beginning ot the 2001 plan period. In most cases you will find direct links which we lead you to the page or reference indicated.
January Notebook
- 28th - Discussions with David Meiklejohn to see about possibly integrating their Cycle Friendly Employers and Travel for Work programs in Cambridge UK into ECFD.
- 28th - Register you Event and Register your Interest sections place on line (temporary, awaiting definitive Earth Day Java pages).
- 26th - First discussions with the Office of Sustainability & Environment of Seattle City Hall to see if we can organize a cooperative ECFD City Pioneer P project.
- 24th - Joel Crawford agrees to provide Author's Corner section for his book, Car Free Cities.
- 22nd - First cut of Jane Jacobs page posted under the Author's Corner (with interview to follow from Sue Zielinski)
- 21st - Contact with Robert Smith to open up cooperation with Walk to School program and its international collaborators
- 20th - Agreement with Grist Magazine to provide coverage of ECFD events
- 19th - Discussions initiated with Horace Mitchell of European Telework Organization for their collaboration in Telecenters/Telework kit and events
- 14th - First cut of Green Maps kit posted to site (Presently being reviewed and modified by Wendy Brawer of Green Maps group.)
- 13th - Discussions initiated with Earth Day secretariat in an attempt to build a common, accessible database of contacts, events and proposals
- 13th - Jan Holtz Kay joins as first contributing author, volunteering to work with us to help develop the basic template for the other writer entries.
- 12th - 2001 Allies Register continues to develop. Now identifies 250 groups and programs around the world with directly related interests.
- 12th - Paul Tranter volunteers to join and take over leadership of the Play Streets program and kit
- 11th - Writers' Corner section of the site opened.
- 10th - Dan Burden of Walkable Communities, Inc. signals interest in becoming one of the leaders of one of the Walk sites. Discussions underway as to how to do this best.
- 11th - City of Bogota commits to its second CFD for Thursday, 1 February, inviting all mayors from Latin American capitals and volunteering to serve as a pioneer for a number of the concepts being developed under ECFD 2001.
- 10th - Horace Mitchell indicates the European Telework Organization will come in to support the Telework/Telecenter component of ECFD.
- 9th - Wendy Brawer comes in to lead the Green Maps program
- 8th - The national representatives participating in the European In Town, Without My Car! program are individually contacted and invited to take an active role is supporting ECFD projects as they appear in their country.
- 8th - The Carsharing Kit is drafted out and put on line, and at the same time the members of the @World Carshare Consortium are invited to join the program and to participate in this portion of the site.

November/December 2000 Events
- 20th - Joel Crawford of CarFree Cities is first to step forward to offer to open up the Discussion List of CarFreeCites.com to matters relating to ECFD 2001.
- 19th - Exactly four months to the day before Earth Car Free Day 2001, the international partnership call is launched with the support of our in-process Web site and supporting communications links.
- 14th - Working Beta version of Web site put on line for testing, and first round of invitations and request for critical feedback and guidelines issued to shortlist of people and groups with hands on car-free day experience.
- 1st - First beta version of web site reviewed internally and with a handful of external partners and eventual contributors to the April 2001 events
- Nov. 2000: Earth Day Network and The Commons spend month in setting out plans and procedures for cooperation in support of Earth Car Free Day 2001
