Free Friday -- and Biker, Walker and Transit Rider Appreciation Day - Philadelphia, PA USA
In Philadelphia the Clean Air Council, the SE PA chapter of the Sierra
Club and a growing list of partners are organizing a car-free media event on
during the morning commute.
Volunteers will have freebies and snacks for those on foot, on bikes and in
line for buses. They will also have signs and literature for drivers with
info. on why driving less benefits us all and public transit info. There
will be a press conference at 8:00 AM at the event site - 15th and JFK
Boulevard near City Hall. The event itself will be from 7:30 - 9:00am.

- Friday, November 9th. National Walk To School Day , New Zealand
New Zealand's first national Walk to School Day, with events around the country including a visit from an international expert on the health benefits of physical activity.
Walk to School Day is a partnership between the Hillary Commission and the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA). The Hillary Commission is co-ordinating events for the day, which is being held as part of national Push Play Day. Activities are being organised locally by regional sports trusts through their active living co-ordinators and through road safety and safer routes to schools co-ordinators. On the day, EECA will launch a Walking School Bus resource kit, put together to support the Walking School Bus - A Guide for Parents and Teachers.

- Thursday, 7 February 2002. "Sin mi carro en Bogotá"
The mayor and the people of Bogota will be launching their third Car Free Day. This international prize-winning cooperative effort may well be serving to encourage similar projects in other Third World mega-cities. Additional information will be posted here as it becomes available to the public.

Fremont Divorces the Automobile for a Day:
"The honeymoon's over! The American romance with the automobile will be declared officially dead in Fremont on Sunday, September 16, 2001. In an effort to promote alternative transportation and celebrate the streets as public space, 35th Street and Canal Street between 1st Avenue and Phinney Avenue will be closed in the neighborhood for the first ever Car Free Fremont. Cyclists and bus riders, skaters and walkers, skateboarders and, yes, even reluctant car users are encouraged to join Fremont residents in celebrating Car-freedom."
- 19 September 2001 Shed Your Car Day - Fremantle, Australia
Shed Your Car Day in Fremantle aims to encourage people to use alternative ways to get in, and around Fremantle, in order to promote the environmental, health and social benefits of reduced car use in the community.
Fremantle residents, commuters and visitors will be encouraged to shed their cars on Wednesday 19 September and experience the benefits of walking, cycling or using public transport.

Their first Car Free Day initiative will give the residents of Toronto an opportunity to open the debate and continue the dialogue on the conundrum that exists between the car and the city. Toronto is a great city and great cities lead. Let's take the opportunity to lead this country forward on the Car Free Day initiative.

Bike and Walk Day
, San Luis Potosí, México
The objective of the day is to show and talk about ways to reduce the level of accidents involving pedestrians and bikers. The event will be held in the Plaza de los Fundadores, opening at 10:00 with an expo of posters promoting bike and walking, with the participation of students, bike associations and bike industry groups. At 16:00 there will be a workshop of painting with childrens, a theater piece, and acrobat bike show, painting expo. There will be a bike ride tour in the center of the city with the Governor of State C. Lic Fernando Silva Nieto. London Car Free Day

This is the first year that Mayor Ken Livingstone and Transport for London have been actively involved in Car Free Day and each year more London boroughs are committing their support to this event. This year 11 boroughs are closing roads and staging events as part of Car Free Day (more).
London Buses are providing 10,000 free bus tickets to people who participate in Car Free Day.

European Commission organised Car Free Day. "The overall aim of the 'In town without my car!' campaign is to encourage public awareness of the need to act against pollution caused by the increase in motorised traffic in the urban environment. "
