New Mobility Media Centre

25 March 2004: This page to be updated and extended.

Earth Car Free Day is also an international media partnership program. The keystone of our international contact and communications effort is this website. But the only way we are ever gong to be able to reach out and touch and activate all those thousands, even millions, of people and places who need to be brought into this brilliant matrix will be via the electronic and print media.

Our Media Centre aims to provide a lively shared repository of words, images, sounds and other media which are freely available for anyone anywhere in the world looking for graphics and media ideas and support for their Car Free Day projects. This corner of the site presently offers:

  1. A collection of Press Releases is available in . . .
  2. Earth Car Free Day In the News
  3. Graphics Library and Links
  4. Books & Other Media
  5. The Authors' Corner - Where we revisit selected important books on these issues, with comments by the authors on the ECFD "pattern break" approach
  6. Media Tookbox - Stuff you may need to get the best out of what you find here.
  7. Polls, Surveys, Guestbooks
  8. Petitions
  9. Creativity - Links to a selection of media concepts which help make the point.
  10. Translate Help - A hand in need.

And while of this is already moving ahead, we are working on...

Let's add to this shared library and media tool box
Both the Earth Day Network and The Commons teams are pushing hard to make this work, but you can help too. We need contacts in the print and electronic media who can help get the message out. We have a terrific newsworthy sequence of events here, and an extremely important and timely underlying goal, so let's see what we can accomplish if we all pull together on this.

Do you have photos or other graphic or media materials from your latest Car Free Day that help to illustrate the principles and achievements (and the barriers) of a CFD? If so, is would be great and neighborly if you would share them with the others who come here with the idea of trying to organize the best possible CFD in their own community? Probably the handiest way to do this, assuming that you already have these materials on line somewhere, will be to send us the full link address, together with a line or two which describes what exactly it involves. In this way, people can decide in advance whether or not they want to have a look (or a hear) before downloading. We thank you for sharing in the name of all who come here.

Use of these materials
All materials referenced and stocked here are to the best of our knowledge free of copyright and thus freely available for your use. That said, we would suggest that to the extent that a source is identified in any case, it is a good idea to clear your public use of the materials with the presumed owner. When it comes to linked material (which we anticipate will eventually constitute the greater part or the CFD Gallery), there is no substitute for the use of your good judgement in deciding what to use and how.

But what we do ask is that when you make use of these materials for whatever reasons you extend the courtesy of referencing us as your source, and if possible letting us have a copy of whatever it is you produce so that we can add it to the Centre here. Also it would be good to have direct links so that these can be posted as well.
