Now, as we watch those seconds race by it can serve as a handy reminder for us that, given the number and amplitude of the tasks before us, every day counts. We open here with a brief resume of the tasks that need to be carried out here in support of the Day.
This is not the first time that anyone on this small planet has set out to do a car free day. With this in view, in laying the base for ECFD 2001 we have given careful attention to learning these

This section attempts to spell out both the main challenges faced and the approach and structure which we propose to put in place in the run-up to the second ECFD. These are intended to give you an idea of what we need to accomplish in order to stimulate and support the specific projects and activities which will constitute the heart, the main achievement of the Day. This is a wide-open, voluntary, international partnership program, seeking new kinds of approaches and relationships between individual citizens, various groupings and representatives of government.
