This Forum constitutes one of several Idea Factories hosted by the New Mobility Agenda. But before we go on to tell you how it works, first a quick word on . . .
The New Mobility Cafe, opened its virtual doors back in 1988 as the Access Café, offering already in the pre-Web world a free discussion space for our international peers, concerned citizens and others who feel that our transport arrangements need to be, and can be made to be, more sustainable and more just. The focus is strongly on the Politics of Transportation. The orientation of the exchanges is strategic, informed and generally sober, if often quite contentious.
Lots Less Cars in Cities (Yes, yes, we are aware that it's not proper idiomatic English. It's not a sentance; it's a cry!) The Idea Factory is by contrast more activist, contentious, informal and laid-back. As the Forum announces: "What we are looking at here is not quite zero cars (in most places) but, let us say, many fewer cars in our cities, a more tranquil environment, and a lot more safe and happy people." Free flow exchanges & shared information on how to address and achieve "less car" solutions to the challenges of transport in cities. Lots on non-motorized transport and traffic reduction measures. And lots of disagreement.
Idea Factory content:
To get a feel for the coverage and style of the exchanges, have a look at any of the following handful of topics that are getting the enthusiastic attention of this wide open public forum:
Site organization and use:
The main thrust of this site is the Idea Factory, which you can click to here or at any time on the top menu (where you will also see a handy link to the New Mobility Café and several of the main tools which set the stage for these matters. By contrast the left menu is all New Mobility, and is taken directly from the main site at http://www.newmobility.org.
And PS: if you chose to venture into the forum and intend to get actively involved in the discussions, please do first read the Welcoming Note, to which you can click here. It will make things more efficient all around. Thanks, and now climb aboard.
Now let's pop in and have a look for ourselves: To the Idea Factory > > >
