This annotated register identifies websites of several hundred groups and programs around the world who are involved in various ways in actively addressing the problems associated with sustainable transport.

The inventory as it currently stands is heavily biased to English languages sources, and we are hopeful that our colleagues around the world will help us to make of this a more balanced and broadly useful tool. We are aware of considerable shortcomings in the Scandinavian, Dutch and German language countries where there is considerable good activity as well in these areas. But for this listing to be of universal value, it will need to be filled in to offer more compete coverage world-wide.   24. Calling Attention to Pedestrian Safety
    One of the most effective ways to call attention to creating a better pedestrian environment is to document the deaths and injuries suffered by pedestrians. In most communities pedestrians are a significant portion of annual traffic fatalities, yet little is done to make the walking environment safer. You can find local statistics that will show the media and officials that the problem is real.

  28. Car Free Cities Network (EU)
    Launched by the European Commission in March 1994 at the "Car Free Cities?" Conference in Amsterdam. The first 37 member cities who joined the network at that time were committing themselves to developing, exchanching and putting in place techniques and management methods for the reduction of the volume of traffic in cities, by actively encouraging the use of more environmentally friendly modes of transport than the car.

Parents can safely allow children to play near the house without fearing that a car will hit them.
