Before taking over the helm at Detour Publications in November 1999, Martin acquired over ten years of diverse environmental experience with several organizations, including the Community Bicycle Network, The Nature Conservancy of Canada and The Recycling Council of Ontarioo. A sustainable transportation activist who has never owned an automobile, Martin has bicycled beside far too many cars throughout Europe and much of eastern Canada. Marty holds a degree in Business and Psychology from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario.

Established as a non-profit enterprise in 1995, Detour Publications is an on-line source for books and multi-media resources focusing on sustainable transportation and urban ecology. Environmental groups, governments, educators, community organizations, planners, policy makers, architects and many others use Detour products for advocacy, research and educational purposes. Detour is proud to be working in partnership with Earth Car Free Day to spread the sustainable transportation word further and faster.
